Five machete-wielding gang members were on Wednesday 27th Feb killed after they launched attacks on residents of Mishomoroni area in Kisauni Sub County, Mombasa County.
Three of the five gang members were lynched by the mob while the other two were gunned down by police who responded to the crime.
About 20 gang members were coming from a burial where one of their member had been killed by the mob over theft when they started attacking residents randomly.
Angry residents cornered and overpowered some, killing them on the spot.
Kisauni sub-county police commander Julius Kiragu while confirming the killing said several weapons were recovered from the gang.
He also added that police are still pursuing those who had escaped.
“Some swam across the ocean as we pursued them, but five were killed. Our officers are still on the ground pursuing the others,” said Mr Kiragu as quoted by Nation
This is not the first time the Kisauni based gang is attacking residents on a revenge mission. In most cases, they have been attacking and stealing from residents any time one of their member is killed.
Unlike past time, the attack on Wednesday saw the gang members use face masks to hide their faces.
